Instructions:

Choose a Bandana Size

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Determine which size bandana you’ll need according to the bandana pattern. Since the embroidery designs are approximately 5.5″ square, the collar casing of the X-Small and Small bandanas is constructed differently than the Large and X-Large. Also, you’ll see below that the Large and X-Large bandana fabric can be cut to shape before embroidering, while it is cut out of the fabric AFTER embroidery on the X-Small and Small. Medium bandanas can be made either way – read both sets of instructions below and choose your preference.

Print the pattern from the PDF linked above.

Iron a pice of Fusible Woven onto the back of your bandana fabric.

Instructions for Large and X-Large Bandanas

Step 1

Fold your fabric in half (long ways) and place the pattern on the fabric. Trim your fabric along the pattern.

Step 2

Along all 5 sides, turn the raw edge under ¼”. Tip: press down each of the sides as you go. Now turn all sides under again ¼” to create a double 1/4” hem. Straight stitch the hem.

Step 3

Print out the embroidery design on a StabilStick Template Sheet.

Step 4

Measure down 1.5” from top of bandana. Fold the front of the bandana to the back along this line. This is where you will insert the dog’s collar, and you can adjust this measurement to match your collar.

Step 5

Open the fold you just made and lay the bandana right side up. You should be able to see the fold line for the collar casing. Remove the paper from the back of the design template and place it on the bandana, centering it with the bottom point and sides.

Step 6

Cut a piece of PolyMesh that is 2” larger than the hoop size you will use. Place the outer hoop on the Grippy Grid aligning it with the center lines. Hoop the PolyMesh and the bandanna fabric, keeping the template center in the center of the hoop. Place the hoop on the embroidery machine. Remove the template sheet. Using the features of your embroidery machine, align the center of the design with the needle. Remove the template sheet before you embroider. Stitch out the embroidery design according to the thread chart.

Remove the project from the hoop. Trim away the excess Polymesh. With the right side of the bandana down, press the embroidery into the Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth. Cut a piece of OESD Gentle Touch Backing to cover the embroidery design and fuse it to the back of the collar.
