Growing up my mom had this shadow box filled with “tiny treasures” from her life. I always loved the little items that filled each box and the stories she had about each one. When I saw this Tiny Treasures collection from OESD it brought me back to this shadow box and how fun it would be to add mini embroidered hoops. These are also cute to make into key chains, brooches, and necklaces. Get the details below and make your own.

Supplies

  • OESD’s Tiny Treasures #12819 embroidery collection
  • OESD Medium Weight CutAway Stabilizer
  • Fabric (medium weight cotton)
  • Embroidery Thread
  • Mini Hoops
  • Additional chains/pins/D-Rings

Instructions

Hoop the fabric and cut away stabilizer. I chose to do 4 of the designs together on my 5″ x 7″ hoop so I didn’t have to re-hoop each time. Just make sure you have about a 1″ perimeter around each so you have enough fabric for the mini hoops.

Mini hoops:

• Trace a 1/4″ perimeter around the hoop you decide to use.
• Cut out.
• There is a little screw that needs to be secured at the top of the hoop, place that in first and tighten slightly before adding the fabric.
• Hoop like you would a large hoop using the interior piece of wood for the back. They can be fragile though so be careful.
• Tighten the screw (you will need a mini screw driver).
• Wrap the additional fabric around the and use a hot glue gun to secure on the interior wood piece.
• You can use the 2nd flat wood piece to glue over the back.

Continue to create your hoops. Now what can be don with such cute little things? You can make necklaces, keychains, even secure a pin on the back for a brooch… I just used a set of pliers to wrap the chains around the center part of the hoop.

So much can be done and great little gifts to share.
